One of my favorite things about being a New York City elopement photographer is seeing how couples use the city as the ultimate canvas for their love story. Every neighborhood has its own rhythm and character, and A&R’s day was the perfect example of that.
Their wedding day blended city energy with personal touches, starting at Manhattan City Hall, moving through the subway and ferry, and ending with a relaxed summer celebration in Long Island City. It was vibrant, heartfelt, and full of joy.
Getting Married at Manhattan City Hall
The morning began at Manhattan City Hall, surrounded by 15-20 of their closest family and friends (only 4 guests + the couple are allowed inside, so everybody was celebrating and waiting for them at the exit). There’s something so timeless about the energy of the City Clerk’s Office, couples from every background, all there to say I do in their own unique way.
A&R’s ceremony was simple, joyful, and deeply personal. When it came time to celebrate, they ditched the Champagne flutes for something that felt much more them: mini tequila bottles! A nod to their Mexican heritage, this fun twist brought smiles all around and reminded everyone that a New York City Hall elopement can be as playful and meaningful as you make it.

Candid Elopement Photos Across New York City
After their ceremony, we took their group on a true New York adventure: hopping from borough to borough for portraits and celebrations. We started near the Brooklyn Bridge, capturing the couple against its iconic arches and cobblestone paths. Then we took things underground, where laughter echoed through the subway tunnels as they rode alongside regular commuters, still in their wedding attire, tequila bottles in hand.
Those candid, in-between moments are just the best, both to experience and for photography. That’s the magic of documentary-style elopement photography.
Ferry Rides and Sunset Views
Next, we boarded an NYC Ferry, which offered a completely different vibe, open air, crisp midday sun, and a breeze that softened the heat of the day. From the deck, we had sweeping skyline views that made the perfect backdrop for a few relaxed portraits. The city looked endless, and for a moment, it felt like A&R had it all to themselves.
A Relaxed Reception at Anable Basin Sailing Bar & Grill
The final stop of the day: Anable Basin Sailing Bar & Grill in Long Island City, a hidden gem of a waterfront restaurant. The reception felt more like a summer hangout with friends than a formal wedding, complete with cold drinks, sunshine, and laughter. Kids ran around, friends clinked glasses, and every conversation was filled with happiness. This is what elopements are all about, doing things your way, on your terms, surrounded by your favorite people.
What Made This New York City Hall Elopement Special
From tequila to ferry rides, every part of A&R’s day was a reminder that weddings don’t need grandeur to be meaningful. You don’t have to follow a script or fit into tradition.
Your elopement can be bold, colorful, and a little bit wild — or quiet, simple, and serene. Whatever it is, it should feel like you.
That’s always been my approach as a photographer: to capture love as it unfolds, through candid storytelling.
