The Met Cloisters has this magical, timeless vibe, meaning it is the perfect spot for romantic moments and big milestones. It is located above the Hudson River, and it is surrounded by beautiful gardens, stunning medieval stone archways, and peaceful courtyards. When you look into all these features, you start thinking that you are stepping into a different world. And that is why Dillon and Kim’s Met Cloisters proposal was pure magic!

Some Places Feel Like Forever

There’s something truly timeless about The Met Cloisters. Tucked away in upper Manhattan, it feels like stepping outside of time, ancient stone walls, arched walkways, and quiet gardens overlooking the Hudson. It’s the kind of place where history breathes softly and love feels infinite. For Dillon and Kim, that timelessness made it the perfect spot for their surprise proposal.

A Secret Worth Keeping

When Dillon first reached out, his vision was clear: he wanted something romantic, meaningful, and unforgettable. Kim’s love for New York’s art and history made The Met Cloisters the perfect setting.

We coordinated every detail: timing, where to stand, when I’d blend into the flow of museum visitors, so that the surprise would feel seamless. The air was soft that morning, and sunlight poured softly through the courtyard arches. And then, in the middle of that serene space, Dillon dropped to one knee.

Kim gasped. The world went still. And then came the laughter, the happy tears, the embrace that said everything words couldn’t.

After she said “yes”, we took a relaxed stroll around the grounds for a Met Cloisters engagement shoot. The couple kept it laid-back and casual, matching the calm energy of the place perfectly. Between those sweet moments and their constant smiles, the session felt so genuine and effortless. We all enjoyed the energy and the emotions! It was a Met Cloisters proposal of dreams. Every single moment we captured was a unique memory!

The City Behind Them

After the big “yes,” we let the joy carry us through the gardens and nearby Fort Tryon Park for more photos. The stone walls, ivy-draped archways, and sweeping views of the river created a cinematic backdrop — like a scene pulled straight from an old love story.

They walked hand-in-hand through cobblestone paths, her engagement ring catching the light. The city hummed below, but up there, it was quiet — just them, the view, and a brand-new chapter beginning.

A Note for Future Proposers

If you have ever wondered if this place is worth a visit to spend special moments, trust us, it totally is! This Met Cloisters proposal is solid proof! It is the perfect place to escape for some art, nature, and love all in one stunning spot. So, whether you are planning a proposal in NYC, dreaming of engagement photos, or just love exploring beautiful spots, this museum is full of charm and tranquility.

While The Met Cloisters is one of the most breathtaking spots in NYC, the museum doesn't allow professional or posed photos within its grounds. I’m always open to attempting it respectfully and discreetly, depending on the day and the flow of visitors.

That said, Fort Tryon Park, right next door, offers the same old-world charm, with its gardens, stone arches, and stunning views. It’s now one of my favorite spots for NYC proposal photography, especially for couples seeking that romantic, storybook feel.

Why everybody loves Proposal Photography

There’s something about proposal photography that never loses its magic. Maybe it’s the nerves. Maybe it’s the way time seems to slow down right before the question. Or maybe it’s how real it all feels, no posing, no retakes, just the moment as it happens.

As a photographer, it’s my favorite kind of storytelling. You can’t plan the reaction, or the laughter that comes after, or the way they hold each other when it’s finally real. It’s honest. Emotional. That’s why people love it, because it reminds us what connection actually looks like.

FAQs About Proposing at The Met Cloisters

  • Can you still photograph proposals at The Met Cloisters?

The Met Cloisters has become stricter in recent years about professional photography, especially posed sessions, and official permits are rarely granted now. That said, I’m always open to attempting it respectfully and discreetly, depending on the day and the flow of visitors.

  • Where is the best spot to propose near The Cloisters? The Heather Garden and Linden Terrace in Fort Tryon Park are incredible, with views of the Hudson River and that same romantic, historic feel.

  • How do I plan a surprise proposal in NYC? Reach out to an experienced NYC proposal photographer (hi, that’s me!) who can help plan timing, lighting, and logistics to keep the surprise flawless.

  • What time of day is best for photos? Golden hour (the hours before sunset) or the early morning bring the most flattering light, especially among the Cloisters’ stone textures and park gardens.

  • How long should we plan for photos? Most couples book 1–2 hours for a proposal and post-engagement session, which gives us time to capture both the big moment and relaxed portraits afterward.
